The tailgate (1) can be pivoted about a front hinge axis by a four-joint mechanism with two levers (25,27), for use as a boot cover, or about a rear hinge axis by a four joint mechanism with two rear levers (27,29), for use as a hood cover (66). A common lever (27) forms part of each joint mechanism. One lever (25,29) of each joint mechanism are connected by a support lever (41) coupling.
