During an MR element height control polishing, errors in MR element heights are encountered due to the presence of MR elements in a raw bar condition and undulation components. This problem can be resolved by an operation in which the distribution of MR element heights of all the raw bars in the MR element height control polishing process is approximated by a line and loads on the left and right sides of a raw bar are controlled so as to minimize the inclination of this line, by an operation in which a raw bar is divided into a plurality of areas in a longitudinal direction and loads on individual area junctions are controlled so that junctions between areas and MR element heights at the opposite ends of the raw bar are aligned linearly, and by an operation in which the distribution of MR element heights in respective areas is approximated by a quadratic curves and loads on individual areas are controlled so that each quadratic curve approaches a line.
|
