PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the viscosity and water-stopping capability to be adjusted by pH, form a stabilizing liquid in which air bubbles hardly appear, and improve the executability and handleability in excavation work and the chemical cost in waste slurry treatment by compounding a specific alkali-thickened acrylic emulsion with an antifoaming agent. SOLUTION: This adjusting agent comprises an antifoaming agent and an alkali-thickenable emulsion which is obtained by the emulsion polymerization of 20-80 pts.wt. carboxylated epoxy monomer, 10-70 pts.wt. (meth)acrylic ester monomer, and 0-10 pts.wt. other copolymerizable monomer (the sum of these monomers being 100 pts.wt), increases the viscosity and water-stopping capability of a slurry in the alkaline range, and decreases the above properties in the acidic range. The alkali-thickenable emulsion of 100 pts.wt. is compounded with about 0.1-10 pts.wt. antifoaming agent. |
