PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a silicon carbide sintered body excellent in strength without occurrence of cracks or breakages. SOLUTION: The method for producing a silicon carbide sintered body comprises impregnating metallic silicon into a formed body containing silicon carbide and carbon under a vacuum atmosphere or non-oxidizing atmosphere to form an impregnated body and cooling the impregnated body under the condition such that the distribution of temp. in the impregnated body is in the range of 0.1 to 1.5 deg.C/cm. The silicon carbide sintered body is obtained by the production method for the silicon carbide sintered body mentioned above. |
