PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for compressing recovered unreacted vinyl chloride monomer, by which the polymerization of the vinyl chloride can effectively be inhibited in a lubricant-circulating line and so on, even when the lubricant supplied into a compressor in a process for compressing the recovered unreacted vinyl chloride monomer is circulated and reused as a lubricant for circulation for a long period. SOLUTION: This method for compressing recovered unreacted vinyl chloride monomer comprises compressing the unreacted vinyl chloride monomer recovered from a process for producing a vinyl chloride-based polymer by the use of a compressor 2 under contact with the circulated lubricant which is supplied into the compressor and contains a polymerization inhibitor.
