PURPOSE: A programmable inverter and method for controlling operation of programmable inverter is provided to load an operation program and process the program without using a host controller. CONSTITUTION: A programmable inverter comprises an inverter unit(15) for converting a direct current power into an alternating current power and supplying the power to a motor(40); a user interface unit(11) for allowing a user to program the operation program for motor; a control unit(13) including a program storage section for storing the operation program, a program interpretation section for interpreting the operation program, and a control command generating section for outputting a control command to the inverter, based on the output from the program interpretation section; an input/output interface unit(17) for communication with an external device(100); and an abnormal state detection unit(19) for detecting an abnormal state of the motor.
