Managing resources in a communications system can include terminating a call delivered over a virtual packet network connection and caching the packet network connection for possible use in carrying narrowband traffic from a subsequent circuit-switched call. The techniques can provide a way to efficiently manage packet-domain bandwidth used for carrying narrowband call s, while minimizing signaling demand on the broadband network.
