The invention relates to a warning device for a compressed air breathing apparatus comprising a mechanical manometer (3) and a pressures sensor (4) fixed in the compressed air line, said sensor being connected to a microprocessor (6) by means of a signal processing part (5). The microprocessor is connected to a movement indicator (9), a temperature senso r (8) and a real-time clock (10) and is also connected to a sound emitter (12) and a display (7). The pressure sensor activates the electronic system of th e apparatus independently of the user and triggers an alarm when a given minim al pressure has been reached or calculates and displays, regardless of the size of the tank, the remaining available time in connection with the real-time clock and the microprocessor on the basis of the actual pressure in the breathing tank and the actual pressure drop per time unit. The microprocesso r is connected to an infrared interface (14) by means of which data for regulating or changing warning thresholds and data pertaining to the apparat us can be equally read.
