The drive unit has an electric motor (12) with a worm (24) mounted on its drive shaft (20) that drives a worm wheel (18) on a driven shaft (16) whose position is detected by sensors (34,36). One of at least two contactless position sensors interacts with a transducer element rotating at the rate of the motor shaft. The other sensor interacts with a transducer element rotating at the rate of the driven shaft.
