PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efface the influence of work-mounting/dismounting time upon the machining cycle time, shortening the machining time, when a plurality of works are machined continuously. SOLUTION: In this lathe, a spindle stock 4 is rotatably installed in a bed 6. A plurality of main spindles 3A, etc., whose directions are orthogonal to the center line Q of rotation of this spindle stock 4, are installed in the spindle stock 4 so that respective spindle ends face outward. Respective main spindles 3A, etc., are provided with a main spindle chuck 3Aa each. The spindle stock 4 is provided with a main spindle rotating mechanism 10, and the spindle stock 4 is rotated so that arbitrary main spindle 3A, etc., installed in the spindle stock 4 can change its position from a machining area to a work exchanging area, and vice versa.
