PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the total plotting instruction processing time within a page by storing area information with respect to picture information, judging the presence/absence of mutual overlapping between the stored pieces of area infor mation, changing the area information based on judgment and processing plot ting information based on changed area information. SOLUTION: A stored plotting instruction is fetched from a temporarily storing part to fetch the pertinent rectangular area information from the part. It is judged whether a fetched rectangular area overlaps with an area to be plotted by a following plotting instruction. In the case of judging the existence of an overlapped area, whether it is partially overlapped or entirely overlapped is judged and at the time of judging that all the rectangular area is contained, there is no need of processing a plotting instruction on the side to be contained, so that processing for obtaining a next plotting instruction is executed. In the case of judging the overlapped area is partial, an area designating value in the plotting instruction is changed in order to plot only the part except for the overlapped area. Subsequently, plotting processing is executed concerning changed contents.
