摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which can drive a TFT even when a vertical alignment type liquid crystal material is utilized. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is provided with a first substrate 10 having a first electrode 26 formed thereon, a second substrate 40 having a second electrode 48 formed thereon, alignment controlling means 28, 50 formed on the first and/or the second substrates, alignment layers 30, 52 formed on the first and/or the second substrate and a liquid crystal 60 with negative dielectric anisotropy enclosed between the first and the second substrates. In this case, the alignment layer is a polyamic acid comprising an acid anhydride containing an alicyclic group, a first diamine having a component vertically aligning the liquid crystal molecules as a side chain and a second diamine having a dielectric constant higher than that of the first diamine.
