PURPOSE: To reduce the burden of reading operation for an operator by knowing the action of waiting when the same article as preceding one is scanned during the operation of a double reading preventive timer so as not to read the same article twice in the case of reading a bar code stuck on the article. CONSTITUTION: Concerning the bar code reader, it is compared whether bar code data are equal with bar code data read the last time or not and when the said bar code data are not matched with the last bar code data, the bar code data are transmitted to an external host. Then, the transmission is reported (S607). When the bar code data are matched and the double reading preventive timer is not under operating, the said bar code data are transmitted to the said host and the transmission is reported (S605). When the said double reading preventive timer is under operating, the said bar code data are abandoned and it is reported with the sound of volume higher than the transmission notice (S614).
