Drugs for periodontal diseases which contain as the active ingredient methanebisphosphonic acid derivatives represented by general formula (I) or hydrates thereof: wherein X, Y, m, n, ..., A, B, R1, R2, R3 and R4 ar e each as defined in the description. The methanebisphosphonic acid derivative s represented by general formula (I) or hydrates thereof are efficacious in, f or example, inhibiting cell infiltration into an affected site accompanying periodontal diseases and therefore useful in preventing and treating periodontal diseases.
