PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To arrange a starter motor for performing automatic restarting after a stop of an engine, in a compact manner as much as possible. SOLUTION: A crank pulley 9 to drive auxiliary apparatuses by an endless belt 15 is provided at the shaft end of a crankshaft 8 protruded from the cylinder block 1 of an engine E. A starter motor M to perform cranking of the crankshaft 8 is contained in the internal space of a crank pulley 9. The starter motor M is provided with a rotor consisting of a permanent magnet 30 fixed on the inner peripheral surface of the peripheral wall part 29 of the crank pulley 9 and a stator consisting of a coil 32 fixed on the outer surface of a chain cover 25.
