PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character recognition error correcting method capable of speedily and exactly correcting the error of the character recognized result. SOLUTION: When the character string of the result of character recognition depending on optical or handwriting input is displayed by a recognized result display part, since one part (all parts) desiring the correction of the recognized result character string is designated from a user by a range designating part 3, at least one candidate character string related to the character string of the designated part is displayed by any selected one of segmenting position fixed and variable recognition candidate display parts 8 and 5. Then, a character string, which is judged proper by the user, is selected out of candidate character strings by any corresponding one of segmenting position fixed and variable recognition candidate selecting parts 9 and 6 and while using the selected character string, the recognized result character string is corrected.
