METHOD OF DIFFERENTIATING BETWEEN BACTERIAL AND VIRAL INFECTIONS

A method for distinguishing between a bacterial infection and a viral infection in a sample taken from a subject is described. The method comprises measuring the level of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) associated with the sample and establishing thereby whether the subject is suffering from a bacterial or viral infection. A test kit for use in the method comprises an agent which causes the release of ATP from bacteria and an ATP assay reagent(s).
