PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably desalt a salt-contg. water. SOLUTION: In the electrodialyzer for desalting a salt-contg. water contg. calcium ion in its electrodialytic cell, a cathode 14 and an anode 18 are arranged in the cell, ion-exchange membranes C and A are arranged in between them side by side to form compartments 9, 11, 21 and 22, an acidic catholyte 13 is introduced into the compartment 9 and an acidic anolyte 17 into the compartment 11, and an ion-exchange membrane closest to the cathode 14 is the anion- exchange membrane A. In this case, the migration of calcium ion from the salt-contg. water into the catholyte 13 in the compartment 9 is prevented when the salt-contg. water is desalted, the clogging, etc., of the anion-exchange membrane A with scales are prevented, and the concn. of salt is increased in the salt-contg. water.
