PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner suppressing an input fluctuation when no dust is accumulated in the vacuum cleaner without deteriorating the resolution of a current detecting circuit near the maximum power point of the vacuum cleaner by setting the allowable fluctuation width in response to the resolution determined by the phase control angle of a phase control circuit. SOLUTION: This vacuum cleaner is provided with a motor-driven fan 7 constituted of a motor and a fan to generate a suction air stream for collecting dust, a dust collection section collecting the dust in the suction air stream, a phase control circuit 20 phase-controlling the AC voltage to control the rotation of the motor-driven fan, and a current detecting circuit 21 detecting the motor current. The phase control circuit 20 is provided with a comparing circuit comparing the motor current detected by the current detecting circuit 21 with the predetermined upper limit value and lower limit value of the motor current and a phase control circuit applying phase control at the predetermined phase control angle at every prescribed interval, it controls the motor current within the allowable fluctuation width determined by the upper limit value and lower limit value, and the allowable fluctuation width is set in response to the resolution determined by the phase control angle of the phase control circuit 20.
