PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound at low cost and in high yield by adding an extraction solvent composed of a polyhydric alcohol to a specific reaction product liquid to effect separation into a hydrocarbon compound layer containing a catalyst component and an extraction solvent layer containing the product. SOLUTION: This compound is obtained by such processes that (F) a reaction product liquid containing the objective compound is obtained by hydroformylation of (A) a dicyclopendadiene and/or tricyclopendadiene with (B) hydrogen and (C) carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst composed of (i) a rhodium compound and (ii) an organophosphorus compound in (E) a hydroformylation solvent composed of a hydrocarbon compound (e.g. methylcyclohexane), and then (G) an extraction solvent composed of a 2-6C polyhydric alcohol (e.g. ethylene glycol) is admixed into the component F to effect separation into a component E layer containing the component D and a component G layer containing the objective compound.
