The invention relates to a method of producing a re-usable image plate with a luminous storage substance. Said luminous storage substance is optionally applied on a substrate, for example a carrier film, and is optionally coated with a protective layer. The re-usable plate is used for storing X-ray images, for example in the field of medical diagnostics, quality control or security control. The inventive plate is characterized in that the luminous storage substance is embedded in a lateral wall structure (10), that the wall structure (10) consists of a plurality of individual cells (12) stringed together on a two-dimensional level and that the walls (14) of the wall structure (10) have a high absorption capacity or reflectivity in the wavelength range of a light radiation that is necessary to read out the information of the plate. The inventive plate or the lateral wall structure (10) is produced by special etching methods for microstructures.
