The control (10) has a text input (12) and a control input (11). Text is input in a normal coded text sequence and is converted into speech. The speech is output using a chain of converters. In addition to the converters, the control unit monitors data transfer inside the chain and has a command interface to each converter. If a command for modification of the running output appears, a command is sent via the command interface to the target converter.
