A tie down device for sheet material such as tarpaulin (12) and the like is disclosed. The device includes a bar (14) and a sleeve (17). The sleeve (17) has a slit extending from end to end thereof for receiving the bar (14) as well as sheet material which extends around the bar (14) and outwardly throu gh the slit of the sleeve (17) on opposite sides of the bar (14). In addition, a rope (19) is secured to the bar (14) which extends through the slit when the bar (14) is received in the sleeve (17). The rope (19) enables the device to be placed under tension so that the bar (14) binds the sheet material extending around the bar (14) against the sleeve (17). This binding action firmly secures the sheet material to the device and thereby prevents the she et material from slipping out of the device between the bar (14) and sleeve (17 ). |
