PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric disconnecting switch allowing a large current and capable of opening or closing a high voltage at a high speed. SOLUTION: A first spring 6 is arranged between a moving contact point and the first end section of a piston, and a second spring 7 is arranged between the moving contact point and the second end section of the piston. A first lock system 8 is provided to prevent the moving contact point from moving during a closing action, the first spring 6 is concurrently compressed, the first lock system 8 is retracted when the first spring 6 is compressed by the prescribed quantity, thereby the moving contact point is connected to a fixed contact point by the extending action of the first spring 6. A second lock system 9 is provided to prevent the moving contact point from moving in the axial direction during the opening action of a disconnecting switch, a second spring 7 is concurrently compressed by the piston, the second lock system 9 is retracted when the second spring 7 is compressed by the prescribed quantity, thereby the moving contact point is separated from the fixed contact point by the extending action of the second spring 7.
