SCANNER AND SCANNING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a scanning image without causing any distortion just close to the joint of an original without being affected by unevenness of the file margin in the case of scanning (copying) a thick original such as a book. SOLUTION: In the case of scanning (copying) a original 103 with a joint, the joint of the original 103 is set aside an end of a scanner main body 101 by matching an end of the scanner main body 101 and a face of a glass plate 102 and the face of the original is closely placed on a face of the glass plate 102 that is an original platen. A light from a light source 106 is directly emitted to the joint of the original 103 via two reflecting mirrors 107, 108 and the glass plate 102 and its reflected light is given to a linear image sensor 105. Thus, a scanning image signal without distortion to the position just closest to the joint of the original 103 can be obtained.
