PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To output an image high in gradation by conducting gamma processing at a high gradation and a low luminance, using a smaller circuit scale. SOLUTION: This gamma-processing unit is provided with an address generating section 100, that receives N-bit image data and applies nonlinear conversion to the N-bit image data into M-bit (M<N) address data, in such a way that a substantial quantization bit number is smaller for image data with high luminance and the substantial quantization bit number is larger for image data with low luminance according to the result of detection of at a position of the most significant bit not being zero in the N-bit image data and with a ROM table 101, that receives the m-bit address data and outputs a gamma correction value, in response to the m-bit address data. |
