PURPOSE: A method for searching cells in a mobile communication system is provided, so that a mobile terminal can discriminate whether a present base station supplies reference time information, as performing a first cell searching procedure. CONSTITUTION: A transmission terminal of a base station transmits a first synchronization code to a synchronization channel at every slot starting point. A mobile terminal finds out a starting point of a slot by using a correlator, and discriminates whether a present base station supplies reference time information. If not, a second cell searching procedure and a third cell searching procedure are sequentially performed. If the reference time information is supplied, the mobile terminal searches a scrambling code allocated in the present base station without performing a code group searching procedure.
