PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the number of manufacturing processes for a rotation detecting ring without reducing the strength and eliminate the need for polishing an outer member for decreased manufacturing cost and enhanced degree of freedom in design. SOLUTION: Pawl portions 18a-18c of a rotation detecting ring 10 are engaged with a groove 62 formed in a spindle 60 of a constant velocity universal joint 12 so that the rotation detecting ring 10 is positioned. An annular portion 14 of the rotation detecting ring 10 is held between the end face 56 of an outer member 30 and the end of an inner ring 80 of a bearing 78. A slope portion 20 is formed on the rotation detecting ring 10 and a plurality of toothed portions 22 are formed at the end of the slope portion 20. With the rotation of the rotation detecting ring 10, the toothed portions 22 are moved close to or apart from a proximity sensor 24.
