PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound useful for production of a silane and siloxane polymers including a homopolymer and a copolymer. SOLUTION: This new compound is the one of formula I (R1 and R2 are each chloro, a triorganosiloxy, an organoxy or the like; R3 is a monovalent hydrocarbon containing no conjugate aliphatic unsaturation or a triorganosilyl; R5 is H or a monovalent hydrocarbon containing no conjugate aliphatic unsaturation; R4 and R6 are each H, a monovalent saturated hydrocarbon containing no conjugate aliphatic unsaturation), e.g. 1,1-dichloro-4- neopentyl-2-(trimethylsilyl)-3-vinyl-1-silacyclobut-2-ene. The compound of formula I is obtained by bringing a mixture comprising a compound of the formula R1R2ClSiCH=CH2 (e.g. trichlorovinylsilane) with a compound of formula II into contact with t-butyllithium.
