PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct a skew image at a high speed. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus has a main scanning image data accumulating means 20 for accumulating image data corresponding to one line, a skew corrected image data accumulating means 21 for accumulating skew corrected image data, a main scanning effective image region flag generating means 22 for forming a signal showing an effective image region in a main scanning direction to feed the same to the main scanning image data accumulating means 20 and the skew corrected image data accumulating means 21, an accumulated effective image region flag generating means 23 forming a signal showing the accumulated effective region of image data to feed the same to the skew corrected image data accumulating means 21 and a sub-scanning effective image flag generating means 24 forming a signal showing an effective image region in a sub-scanning direction to feed the same to the main scanning image data accumulating means 20 and the accumulated effective image region flag generating means 23.
