PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a color filter having comparable coloring property and transparency with a color filter using dyes and having excellent heat resistance and strength by constituting a color layer of a vitreous substance having dispersion of a colloid of a metal or metal compd. to be formed on a transparent substrate. SOLUTION: The color filter 1 for a display device is formed into stripe or mosaic pixels of a color layer 3 of red(R), green(G) and blue(B) colors on a transparent substrate 2. If necessary, a base layer 4 is formed between the transparent substrate 2 and the color layer 3, and a protective layer 5 is formed on the color layer 3. The transparent substrate 2 is preferably made of a material having enough strength, flatness, heat resistance, light-transmitting property or the like, and usually a transparent glass is used. The color layer 3 consists of a colloid of a metal or metal compd. and a vitreous substance. The metal colloid is preferably a colloid of Ag, Cu, Au, Pd or Pt. |
