PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record and reproduce the three-dimensional animation by a single device. SOLUTION: Liquid crystal molecules are aligned by applying a DC voltage to both transparent electrodes holding the liquid crystal therebetween. When light enters cells, the liquid crystal changes its orientation direction by the electric field of the light. The change of the orientation is detected as the change of the electrostatic capacity of the electric resistance between both electrodes. A liquid crystal panel 35 formed by two-dimensionally aligning the liquid crystal cells is used as an image sensor, an interference pattern of an object 38 is detected at a real time to record the three-dimensional animation. The data of the recorded three-dimensional animation is reproduced by the same liquid crystal panel 35, and the three-dimensional animation is reproduced by applying the reading light. The laser beams from the laser light sources of three primary colors are successively switched by a beam chopper to form the interference pattern, whereby the color three-dimensional animation is recorded. The color three-dimensional animation is reproduced by reproducing the interference pattern in synchronization with the chopping in recording, and applying the laser beam of the same color.
