PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely prevent the increase of a move-down speed due to a load applied from a case, eliminating the need for forming a pit for a shock absorbing mechanism under the floor surface of the lowest floor and achieve shorter installation work period and reduced working cost. SOLUTION: Guide rails 3a, 3b and a screw 4 are arranged on the side face of an elevator shaft 7, a roller is provided on the side face of a cage 2 for engaging the guide rails 3a, 3b and a nut 5 threadedly engaged with the screw 4 and a motor 6 for supplying rotation to the nut 5 are provided on the upper face of the cage 2. With the rotation supplied by the motor 6, the nut 5 moves the screw 4 up and down, followed by the elevation of the cage 2 along guide rails 3a, 3b. The nut 5 is free from rotation due to a load applied from the cage 2 and the cage 2 is free from an increase in move-down speed. Therefore, the need for installing a shock absorbing mechanism and an elevating mechanism under the cage 2 is eliminated.
