A device for making a mold for molding at least a portion of a tread of a tire using a countermold and a pourable, solidifiable material. Molding elements are transferred from the countermold and imbedded in the tire tread mold in protruding fashion by placing each molding element in a housing of the countermold before the actual molding of the tire tread mold and in such a manner as to permit easy transfer from the countermold to the tire tread mold.
