PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a data transfer device in a simple constitution by generating the timing accordant with the transfer rate set per transfer unit of the 2nd data received according to the difference between the 1st and 2nd transfer formats with synchronization and then transmitting the 1st data in the 2nd transfer format for every transfer unit. SOLUTION: When the data on a personal computer 2 are transmitted, a start bit is sent from a VTR 3 for every word. The computer 2 sends a data bit to the VTR 3 synchronously with the start bit and the VTR 3 carries out the control contents based on the data bit. Thereby, a data transfer system 10 includes an input/output circuit 11 comprising an I/F (LANC interface) 12 and an I/F (RS-232C interface) 13 between the VTR 3 and the computer 2. Thus, the data can be bidirectionally transferred in every word between the VTR 3 and the computer 2 via the circuit 11. Accordingly, no conversion device is necessary for securing the compatibility of transfer formats and a data transfer device can be miniaturized.
