PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device for stably emitting light with a simple configuration and an image reader provided with the same. SOLUTION: In this light source device composed of a cathode-ray tube for emitting light from a light emitting part 6 by discharging an electrode part 7, the electrode part 7 and the light emitting part 6 are separated by a boundary wall 4, the dimension of which is set so as not to affect discharging. The boundary wall 4 is formed so that the top end of an electrode 1 on the side of the light emitting part can be abutted. The image reader is provided with the light source device, an image forming lens and a reading sensor. Since the shape of a xenon tube itself has the effect of a glass tube, the number of components of the light source device is reduced and cost reduction becomes possible.
