PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader, an image reading method and a recording medium recording an image reading program capable of quickly displaying plural images such as medical images. SOLUTION: Plural medical images required for image reading and the display order of the medical images are set up as an image group and stored in an image storage part, a group concerned is selected from the image storage part (S21), the initial medical image data of the group are retrieved/read out/ converted into gradation and stored in a frame memory (S22 to S25) and the medical image data stored in the frame memory are displayed (S26). When there are medical image data to be displayed next (S27), the succeeding medical image data are retrieved/read out/gradation converted and stored in the frame memory in parallel with the image display.
