PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for detecting an edge in an image are provided to control detecting edge of natural image so that the edge of graphic image is detected stably. CONSTITUTION: The method for detecting an edge in an image, in which graphic and natural image are mixed, comprises steps of obtaining differences among eight pixels adjacent to a first pixel, defining that the first pixel is an edge pixel when the differences are larger than a maximum threshold value or less than a minimum threshold value, obtaining differences among eight pixels adjacent to a second pixel positioned at a left side of the first pixel, defining that the second pixel is the edge pixel when the differences are larger than a maximum threshold value or less than a minimum threshold value, obtaining differences among eight pixels adjacent to a third pixel positioned at an upper side of the first pixel, defining that the third pixel is the edge pixel when the differences are larger than a maximum threshold value or less than a minimum threshold value, defining that the first pixel has a left edge when one of the first and second pixels is the edge pixel and a difference between the first and second pixels is larger than the maximum threshold value. |
