PURPOSE:To obtain the display element having excellent display quality by using high-polymer films, at least one sheet of which consists of a high polymer contg. the structure having multiple bonds of arom. rings, etc., in the side chain part and having the number of the chemical bonds between the multiple bonds and the main chain within 5 pieces. CONSTITUTION:This display element is constituted of a liquid crystal layer which is crimped between a pair of substrates having electrodes, at least one layer of double refractive layers consisting of the oriented high-polymer films and a pair of polarizers which are so disposed as to sandwich the liquid crystal layer and the double refractive layers from the outside. At least one sheet of the high-polymer films consists of the high polymer having the number of the chemical bonds between the multiple bonds of the arom. rings, etc., and the main chain within 5 pieces in the side chain part. At least one layer of the stretched films is used as a compensating plate (phase plate) in such a manner, by which diversified visual angle compensation is executed according to the modes of the liquid crystal element. |
