PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mold clamping device which can clamp a mold by a smallsized toggle mechanism similarly to a conventional large-sized toggle mechanism, is short in length, easy of handling, and low in costs, and does not need the processing of a cylinder on an end plate. SOLUTION: In a mold clamping device, a mold opening/closing hydraulic cylinder 16 is contracted from a mole-opening state, an end plate 8, a movable board 7, and a tie-bar 3 are mold-closing-moved to the right, molds 5, 13 are closed, the tie-bar 3 is passed through the through hole 1a of a fixed board 1, and its fixed part 3a is fixed by a half nut 4. In this state, a mold clamping hydraulic cylinder 26 is actuated, both links 19, 21 of a toggle mechanism is extended linearly so that the movable board 7 is moved along the tie-bar 3 to the end plate 8, and the molds 5, 13 are clamped. The mold clamping stroke of the toggle mechanism is the extended portion of the tie-bar 3 (usually several millimeters, through varies depending on mold clamping force) which generates prescribed mold clamping force.
