PURPOSE: A low power consuming optical sensor is provided to ensure long life time as a small battery and easy installation by permitting operation of a luminous unit and a light receiving unit in a predetermined range of pulse to reduce power consumption. CONSTITUTION: An optical sensor comprises a luminous unit(10) for radiating light with a specific wavelength and a light receiving unit(20) for receiving light radiated from the luminous unit(10). The luminous unit(10) has a pulse generating unit(2) for receiving power from a power supply(12) to output pulse; a luminance drive unit(14) connected to the pulse generating unit(2) for driving a light emitting diode(16) in a certain range of pulse; and a bias control unit(4) connected to the pulse generating unit(2) for outputting bias voltage synchronized to the pulse of the pulse generating unit(2). The light receiving unit(20) has a comparator(26) connected to the bias control unit(4) for being selectively operated only upon appliance of bias voltage; and a signal transducer(34) for being operated upon receiving the output signal of the comparator(26). The luminous unit(10) and the light receiving unit(20) are operated only in a predetermined range of pulse.
