New fluorocyclohexanes (I) are trans-2,2,6,6-, -3,3,5,5-tetra- and 2,2,3,3,5,5,6,6-octa-fluorocyclohexyl compounds with a total of 2-5 rings linked by single bonds and/or ester and/or optionally fluorinated ether and/or alk(en)ylene bridges. New fluorocyclohexanes of formula (I) are trans-2,2,6,6-, -3,3,5,5-tetra- and 2,2,3,3,5,5,6,6-octa-fluorocyclohexyl compounds with a total of 2-5 rings linked by single bonds and/or ester and/or optionally fluorinated ether and/or alk(en)ylene bridges: R<1>-(Z<1>-A<1>)n-A-(Z<2>-A<2>)m-R<2> (I) R<1>, R<2> = hydrogen (H), cyano (CN), fluorine (F), difluoromethoxy (OCHF2), trifluoromethoxy (OCF3), 1,2,2,2-tetrafluoroethoxy (OCHFCF3), 2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy (OCH2CF3), pentafluoroethoxy (-OCF2CF3) or 1-12 carbon (C) alkyl, in which 1 or more non-adjacent methylene (CH2) groups may be replaced by ether oxygen (-O-), thioether (-S-), carbonyl (-CO-), 1,3-cyclobutylene, ester (-CO-O-, -O-CO-), carbonate (-O-CO-O-) or ethenylene (-CH=CH-), without directly linked heteroatoms; A = trans-2,2,6,6- or -3,3,5,5-tetra- or 2,2,3,3,5,5,6,6-octa-fluorocyclohexylene (IIA), (IIB) or (IIC); A<1> = (a) trans-1,4-cyclohexylene, in which 1 or more non-adjacent CH2 groups may be replaced by -O- or thioether (-S-), (b) 1,4-phenylene, in which 1 or 2 CH groups may be replaced by nitrogen (N), (c) 1,4-bicyclo(2,2,2)-octylene, piperidin-1,4-diyl, naphthalen-2,6-diyl, decahydronaphthalen-2,6-diyl or 1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalen-2,6-diyl, (d) 1,4-cyclohexenylene, in which (a), (b) and (d) may be substituted by CN, chlorine (Cl) or F, or (e) (IIA), (IIB), (IIC), trans-2,2-difluorocyclohexylene (IID) or trans-3,3-difluorocyclohexylene (IIE); Z<1>, Z<2> = -CO-O-, -O-CO-, -CH2O-, -O-, -O-CH2, -CH2CH2-, -CH=CH-, -CF2CF2-, -OCF2, -CF2O-, -CH2CF2, -CF2CH2- or a single bond; n, m = 0, 1, 2 or 3; m + n = 1, 2, 3 or 4.
