PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production process for cast-coated paper that has extremely reduced uneven brightness and extremely reduced occurrence of pin holes, and excellent white paper gloss and permits high-speed production in the rewet-casting method. SOLUTION: The base paper is coated with a water-based composition mainly including pigment and adhesive on its surface, dried to provide a dried coating layer. Then, a rewetting solution is applied to the coating layer for moist- plasticization, then the coating layer is pressed via a pressing means to the mirror face drum, dried and peeled off thereby producing the objective cast- coated paper of super gloss mirror finish. In this process, the coated paper 1 is pressed to the mirror face drum with the first pressing means 7 at the first time, and, while the coated layer is in the moistened state, repressed at least by the second pressing means 8 whereby the drum surface and the coated layer can be more uniformly pressed. In addition, the cast-coated layer is plastically deformed to cause densification and increased smoothness treatment, while the vaporization of the moist is promoted for drying the paper.
