PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a mounted type display device having a see-through property and capable of realizing a wide viewing angle and a high resolution. SOLUTION: Light beams emitted from a light source 1 are made into parallel light beams by a collimator lens 4 and modulated according to an image signal by a spatial modulator for displaying a picture 5. Then, they are temporarily condensed by a condensing lens 6 and diffracted and reflected by a first diffraction element 9A. Besides, they are diffracted by a second diffraction element 9B and condensed at the center 10 of the pupil 11 of an eyeball 11. By making on optical distance between the modulator 5 and the lens 6 equal to the focal distance of the lens 6, the light beams from the respective pixels of the modulator 5 can be condensed at a condensing point 7 even when type are not the parallel light beams.
