Quantized data form an M bit wide data stream which is supplied to a digital limiter module, to limit the digital data. This exceeds a preset value on a threshold and supplies the component exceeding the threshold to a memory. The excess component is added to the data of an M bit data stream. The limitation leads to a rise of the distortion factor in the region of maximum amplitudes of a signal. With the aid of the memory, and the addition of the excess component to the data, a control loop is formed which acts as a low pass filter, so that the distortion factor is reduced. An Independent claim is included for a digital to analog converter (DAC).
