PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain lithium manganese spinel oxide particle powder having a narrow particle size distribution and slight residual water on the surface of particle by coating the surface of particle with a coupling agent containing both a hydrophilic group and a hydrophobic group. SOLUTION: Manganese oxalate and/or manganese acetate powder is thermally decomposed in an oxygen-containing gas at 350-500 deg.C to give manganese oxide particle powder. The manganese oxide particle powder is formulated with a lithium compound in the molar ratio of Li/Mn of 0.50-0.65 to give mixed powder, which is mixed with 1-10 wt.% water, compressed molded to give a molded product having >=2 g/cc molding density. The molded product is baked in an oxygen-containing gas at 500-750 deg.C for 5-20 hours to give lithium manganese spinel oxide. The lithium manganese spinel oxide is dispersed into an organic solvent to give a dispersion, which is mixed with 0.1-5.0 wt.% of a coupling agent containing both a hydrophobic group and a hydrophilic group to coat the surface of the particle with the coupling agent containing both the hydrophobic group and the hydrophilic group. |
