PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To property execute the fallback of a communication operation by selecting a 2nd terminal function in the case that first dialing is made to a designated destination in a state that a 1st terminal function is selected and designated and a dialed call is failed, and dialing the same destination in a state that the selected 2nd terminal function is designated. SOLUTION: A terminal function is set to a group 4 facsimile equipment function. A setup message is generated and sent to an ISDN to monitor and acknowledgement of the message from the ISDN. The terminal equipment receives the message from the ISDN and checks whether it is a disconnection message (DISC) or a release completion (REL-COMP). In the that the message is not added with a 'reason indication' information element due to the cause of the singularity of the ISDN or the like, the terminal equipment checks presence of setting of a forced fallback mode, checks its contents when a fallback condition indicates a reason display value, and the terminal equipment conducts prescribed procedure processing and executes proper redialing.
