The profiled seal (20) consists of a sealing head (24) and foot (22) for anchoring the seal in an assembly groove (16) in a support element (10,12). A plane (26) runs parallel with the center plane (18) of the assembly groove, through the sealing-foot which is staggered in position in relation to the plane. The head has a preferably arched end part (44) protruding above the plane. The head has a base surface (48) resting on a first part-surface (14a) running beside the groove. An outer surface (52) adjoins the base surface in a preferably arc shape leading into the end part.
