The invention relates to a device for regulating a compressor (1) by throttling the suction volumetric flow. The inventive device comprises an inlet valve (4) which is mounted on the inlet of the compressor (1) and which is provided with a throttling device (5) having a throttle (6). The throttling device (5) is coupled to a moveable actuator (7) that can be controlled by an electronic control device (11). An electronic pressure sensor (12) is arranged at the outlet of the compressor (1) and is connected to the control device (11) in order to detect the working pressure. The actuator (7) of the throttle (6) can be controlled according to the actual value of the working pressure and a theoretical value of the working pressure, whereby the actual value is detected by the pressure sensor (12) and the theoretical value can be pre-adjusted at the control device (11). The aim of the invention is to enable suction throttling so that problems of pneumatic and hydraulic P regulators are prevented. To this end, the throttle (6) is coupled to a hydraulic or pneumatic actuator (7) which can be impinged upon by a control medium via control lines (8, 9). At least one throttling point (13) and at least one electrical control valve (10) are inserted into the control lines (8, 9). The control valve (10) is connected to the electronic control device (11) and can be controlled by said control device (11).
