The seat for a motor vehicle has a foam cushion (5) with a support face (6) covered by upholstery (8). The cover has connecting lines (9) along which an edge flap (17,18) for each cover panel is folded for insertion into a recess (10) formed in the cushion by a hook (20). The hook has a flat insert (21) carried by the cushion and corresponding to the groove and a cord (22) with branched ends which engage the insert and its edges to exert a traction force on them.
